One of the performers used singing crystal bowls laid out on the floor od the restaurant to perform a so-called re-awakening of an enlightened music form. Singing bowls (also known as Himalayan bowls, rin gongs, medicine bowls, Tibetan bowls or suzu gongs in Japan) are a type of bell, specifically classified as a standing bell. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound. Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of Bön and Tantric Buddhist sadhana. Today they are employed worldwide both within and without these spiritual traditions, for meditation, trance-induction, relaxation, healthcare, personal well-being and religious practice.

Valentines SMORE'S

S'Mores (sometimes spelled "smore") is a traditional nighttime campfire treat popular in the United States and Canada, consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker. スモア は、アメリカ合衆国およびカナダで伝統的な、夜間キャンプファイヤーで人気のデザートで、焼いたマシュマロとチョコレートの層を2枚のグラハムクラッカー (Graham cracker) で挟んで作る。

I found a huge bag of MEGA sized marshmallows and decided to have a snack during break-time and introduce the campside favorite at Cooking Class.

S'MORES appears to be a contraction of the phrase, "some more". While the origin of the dessert is unclear, the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the publication "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts" of 1927.They are very easy to make. Step #1 Roast the marshmallow over low heat to brown, being careful not to over burnt it.

The recipe is credited to Loretta Scott Crew, who reportedly made them by the campfire for the Scouts. It is unknown whether the Girl Scouts were the first to make s'mores, but there appears to be no earlier claim to this snack. Step #2 Once the marshmallow is warm and soft in the center sandwich it between two graham crackers and a br of milk chocolate.

Although it is unknown when the name was shortened, recipes for "Some Mores" are in various Girl Scout publications until at least 1971.

Step #3 Place the roasted marshmallow on the choclate and allow it to melt into the choclate bar. Press down from both sides and make sure both sides get enough of the gooey-ness! Note: it's shouldn't be eaten with care....make a mess and enjoy!

Simple Cocoa or Matcha Pound Cake
This is a simple recipe that can be used to marble or form shapes in the mixture. We tried seperating the mixtures and forming faces or hearts.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder(Van H is the best!)
2 tablespoons matcha green tea powder(good quality green tea powder is the best but very expensive. I received a can of dry Ogi tea powder from Kyoto)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
5 large eggs, separated
1 pinch salt

Directions:
Prep Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 1 1/4 hr
1 Prepare 2 loaf pans (9x5x3) by buttering and lining with parchment paper. Butter the parchment paper as well.
2 Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
3 In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, matcha, and baking powder.
4 In a large bowl, beat together the butter and the powdered sugar for 3 minutes or until light and fluffy.
5 Add the yolks into the butter mixture, one at a time, mixing well in between each addition.
6 Add the dry ingredients into the butter and yolk mixture and set aside momentarily.
7 In a large clean bowl, beat the egg whites and salt until soft peaks form.
8 Fold the beaten egg whites into the yolk batter and gently mix until incorporated.
9 Pour the batter into the loaf pans and smooth the top.
10 Bake for 60 to 70 minutes until this passes the clean wooden skewer test.
11 Cool for 10 minutes, dismount and cool on a rack.
Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Tokyo Burger Run! 5 Hamburgers-in-a-Day!

Tokyo Hamburger Hunt! There are plenty of Western wanna-be hamburger joints all around Tokyo so I called up some friends to have a Hamburger eating tour.

We all met in Shibuya around 10am and set out for our first destination...

#1 ARMS restaurant located on the west side of Yoyogi park had a very friendly atmosphere with friendly staff and a rather down home cooking style. The hamburgers came out quickly and the attention to service was subtle. Avocado burgers were highly recommended.

Let the feasting beginnnnnn!

The Day's Special. Celery and Honey Mustard Burger 1200 yen #2 The Great Burger (Shibuya) a few minutes walk from Meijingumae station, hidden around a corner from the main street.

With it's rustic atmosphere and extensive menu it is sure to please the younger generation who haunts this area of the city.
Gorgonzola Cheese Burger and Onion Rings. 1350yen

Although the atmosphere is nice and the retro decor is amusing I would have to warn people about the smokers! I found myself trapped at a table with two young chimney inhalers toking away like there was no cancer tomorrow! Bad for the taste buds!

Aside from a few unruly smokers I'd have to recommend the filling and thoughtful menu. he buns were especially tasty!

#3 Goro's Diner (Aoyama)
Nestled in a hard-to-find spot in upper Aoyama-not far from the Bell Commons. It has a large local following and we found ourselves lingering outside for out order. The restaurant only seats 10. We opted to take our orders out and eat at a local park.

This upscale restaurant boasted it's pricey earthenware refrigerator with 10-year aged beef.

Finishing off a fine day of hunting, hiking , and hunger taming we finished off the tour. Thank you everyone! I'm full!
